Believed to be compiled by Confucius, Shih ching or "Book of Odes" is a collection of poems, dating from to BC. These are believed to be the oldest existing examples of Chinese poetry. The collection includes refined folk songs, ritualistic poems, dynastic legends and . The tepid reception of the Odes following their publication in 23 bc and his consciousness of growing age may have encouraged Horace to write his Epistles. Book I may have been published in 20 bc, and Book II probably appeared in 14 bc. These two books are very different in theme and content.

The Horace: Odes and Poetry Community Note includes chapter-by-chapter summary and analysis, character list, theme list, historical context, author biography and quizzes written by .   Horace's original, with an interesting modern American translation and helpful commentary by William Harris, is here. Horace: The Odes, Book One, .

6 Chapter 7. Ordinary Differential Equations Note that this works perfectly well if y0 is a vector and f returns a vector. As a quadrature rule for integrating f(t), Euler’s method corresponds to a rectangle rule where the integrand is evaluated only once, at the left-hand endpoint of the interval. The differential equations we consider in most of the book are of the form Y′(t) = f(t,Y(t)), where Y(t) is an unknown function that is being sought. The given function f(t,y) of two variables defines the differential equation, and exam ples are given in Chapter 1. This equation is .
